Programming Guide

On Friday nights, LYG brings together LGBTQIA+ youth between the ages of 13-20 in a safe, fun and relaxing setting. This time provides youth with the opportunity to build healthy relationships, connect with the broader LGBTQIA+ community, and interact with adult mentors. Themes and topics include: game night, suicide prevention, mental health first-aid, dance parties, and health education (just to name a few!)

The LYG Junior group is for LGBTQIA+ and allied youth between the ages of 5-12. This group focuses on creating a welcoming space for both youth and parents to meet people and make friends. Similar to our young adult group, our Junior Group hosts development topics and opportunities to meet the needs of our youth and parents. This group meets on the second and fourth Friday of the month from 5:30 to 7:00PM.

The 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month are dedicated to Trans supportive and educational programming. Local Trans leaders, and Trans mentors help guide our Trans identified youth through the complexities of their own self-discovery and the practical steps toward realizing their gender identity.

Many of our Trans youth are not allowed to dress in clothing that represents their gender identity. LYG offers a space for those youth to access clothing that matches their identity so that they can express externally what they know internally.

The YLC is an opportunity for youth to gain vital leadership skills and help guide the vision and programming for LYG. Council members lead sessions, plan events, guide LYG programming and sit in on meetings of the LYG Board of Directors.

Many LGBTQIA+ youth feel unsafe taking their date to Prom. LYG’s Prom is a fun and safe experience for ALL youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Always a youth favorite, LYG Camp is a fun weekend to socialize, develop leadership skills, and enjoy nature. Activities include campfires, night hikes, challenge course initiatives, and lots of lively conversation.

LYG actively participates in the many Pride opportunities in the Kentuckiana region. Pride Month is an important way for LGBTQIA+ youth to connect their LGBTQIA+ roots while engaging with local LGBTQIA+ communities beyond LYG.

LYG’s Pasta Dinner and Talent Show is Kentuckiana’s favorite LYG fundraising event. Each year the youth design, plan, and execute every detail of this fun and food-filled evening.

Our annual Autumn Festival is our primary adults-only fundraising event. It is a time for the Kentuckiana community to come together and celebrate the work of LYG, while also raising awareness around the needs of our LGBTQIA+ youth.
